The standard length of pole which comes as four component parts is 2.4 metres; however, as the screw-together components are interchangeable, the pole can be lengthened, or shortened, as required in 600 mm increments. In action the poles are readily pushed off the shallow positioning cups formed in the ends, however should sufficient vertical load be applied to the pole by the horse, the pole is designed to breakaway at one of the junctions of a pole component body and its formed screw end seen in the top centre image below so, if a mishap occurs, particularly when using the higher keyhole jump stands, no injury should be caused to horse or rider. Of course, one or more of the screw-together pole components must then be replaced.
